Of Staff:

We want to be a workplace that is as family orientated and helpful as possible, and with that we have offered space for school aged children of staff to be at LRPS during the school holidays, if necessary.  The younger children do love having school aged children around, and it is something that is valued.  With that sense of whanaungatanga, it does go both ways, with us also needing to operate effectively, and safely.

Therefore, if no other childcare option is available off site, then there is an expectation that food and activities for your child are prepared for them over their time here, to enable them remaining in one place for a sustained period (Eg child chooses to watch a movie on their tablet with headphones in the staffroom, or chooses to stay in playroom with you until your break).  We are asking this because we are finding the constant opening and closing of the doors of the preschool causes both opportunity for children to escape (particularly the main gate which is incredibly dangerous), as well as being fairly distracting for the staff.

As your child is not on our Preschool licence, our priority is for our enrolled children.  Other staff are ultimately not responsible for your child, so it is preferable that your child works as closely with you as possible, so that distractions, or instances of interruptions, are less likely.

Children are welcome to remain in the playroom (including the playground) to help alongside staff, remembering our values of peace, kindness, respect and helping others.

There is no expectation that your child is responsible for our children’s safety.

To ensure the safety of everyone:

  • Your child must be signed in to the Preschool (on the bottom of the sign-in sheet)
  • A parent/guardian must be on site at all times
  • Children must remain inside the main preschool gates, to ensure that LRPS children are not able to get out.  Animals (such as the rabbits) can only be brought into preschool if staff are available to help, or available to watch the door/gate.
  • LRPS rules, policies and procedures must be followed
  • We ask that your child does not carry any other child.

Everyone is required to adhere to these guidelines above, otherwise we may ultimately have to simply ask you to find other arrangements.  Kia ora.

Students from Big Rock / Teenage Volunteers:

Unsupervised (no guardian present) school aged children will be under the supervision of the Person Responsible, and must also adhere to the rules above.  At the discretion of the Person Responsible, children may be asked to return to school/home, if necessary.
