Medicine Procedure

Little Rock Preschool will only administer medication to children when it has been written on the medicine chart by the parent/caregiver. This is located under the sign in chart on the wall to the left of the kitchen entrance.

The parent/caregiver must date, write the child’s name, medication name, how much to administer, time last administered, and time due, and sign the form.

One teacher will sign, note the time and amount administered.  A second teacher will check, and sign that the correct medicine and dosage is being administered.

Prescription medicine will only be given to the child whom it has been prescribed for. The label must be readable and have the correct dosage prescribed by a doctor (teachers will only administer amount that is typed on the label).

Cough medicine/ Pamol etc that has been purchased from the supermarket or pharmacy must have the child’s name clearly marked on it and the medicine chart completed as above.

Children on permanent medicine (such as inhalers) need an individual health plan completed. This plan will be kept in the first aid cabinet.  Medication will be administered as per directed on the health plan. All teachers will be trained with regard to the directions within the health plan for each child on a plan.
