Food Handling & Clean Up
Food Handling/Clean Up
Children bring their own food to Preschool. Any food requiring refrigeration will be stored in the fridge. Bottles made up at home will also be stored in the fridge.
The kitchen bench is cleaned before and after use with yellow cloths.
Any food provided by Preschool will be recorded in the food register.
Staff preparing or heating food will wash hands with soap and water, and dry with paper towels in kitchen.
Chopping boards are used to cut up fruit.
Tables are sprayed and wiped with disinfectant using red cloths, then a tablecloth is laid on the table.
Food scraps will be disposed of in animal scrap container.
Drinking cups, spoons, rubbish bins and water container are placed on kai table – a second, or third table will be set up if necessary. Babies’ water cups are placed on table when they are sitting down to eat.
After eating the tables are cleared, and then the tablecloths are sprayed using disinfectant using the yellow cloths. The floor is swept with broom, and scraps are disposed of in rubbish bin. Any spills are cleaned with red floor mop, or water is cleared with the white towels.
Dishes will be washed and left to air dry.
Water jugs are refilled and cups are replenished – so that water and cups for drinking are available at all times.
Shared food that has been supplied for parties etc, and baking, will be recorded and kept for 3 months.
No children are left alone while eating.
Children under 6 months of age are held while drinking bottles, and/or eating.
Children under the age of 12 months are only given infant milk food which has been supplied by their parent/caregiver.
All bottles that are given to children will be recorded on the bottle chart and these records will be kept for 12 months.
