Fire Evacuation

Fire Drill/Evacuation Procedure
(as per authorised Fire Evacuation Plan)
The signal for a fire drill is the ringing of the bell by the main door, and calling “FIRE, FIRE”.
Children immediately stop what they are doing, and move outside as quickly as possible – without running – as directed by their teachers. Children in need of assistance will be helped to evacuate the premises.
The Fire Warden will be the first permanent teacher who discovers the fire (or is notified of the fire). They wear the fire warden armband, check toilets, kitchen, nappy changing area, and main playroom. They will close all doors, and bring cellphone, sign-in sheets, staff roster, and back pack (which has the parent contact details, first aid kit etc). They will also check that the offices, staffroom, laundry and sleeproom are all evacuated.
Children and teachers will proceed to the school top asphalt court.
Upon reaching the safe point the teacher who is the Fire Warden will check numbers, by calling the roll.
The Fire Drill will be practiced bi-monthly, on different days to include as many children as possible. All permanent teachers will be trained in evacuation procedures.
In the event of a real fire/emergency, once building is evacuated, emergency services are to be contacted – Dial 111.
