Excursions

Excursions
- Parent/caregivers sign permission for outings when they enroll their children in the preschool.
- Every excursion – including spontaneous ones – will have an excursion and risk analysis form completed before the excursion, and it will be checked and signed by the Person Responsible.
- There will always be the correct teacher/child ratios-1 teacher to 4 children; this may change depending on the nature and inherent danger of the outing. There will always be at least one regular staff member. There must be at least two adults in any motor vehicle carrying children.
- Children from Little Rock Preschool may be transported by car or van for certain outings – this will require separate signed permission prior to excursion by parent/caregiver.
- Children travelling in a car/van will be restrained in their own car seat as required by regulation 46/HS18.
- Any car used for an excursion will have the registration and warrant checked by the Manager before the excursion, to ensure that they have a current warrant and that the car is registered.
- The driver of the car will have their licence checked by the Manager before the excursion, to ensure that they have their full licence and are able to take passengers.
- Water and a first aid kit are taken on outings at all times and at least one staff member will have a current First Aid certificate.
- Two lists will be made of children going on an outing; one will stay at the centre (this includes destination and time due back) and one to go with the outing staff (this will include parent/caregiver contact details).
- Road safety rules will be followed and children will hold hands at all times deemed necessary for safety.
- Teachers will regularly scan the environment to ascertain the whereabouts of all children during the excursion.
- Any parent helper/volunteers will be made aware of this policy.
- At least one staff member will carry the emergency/excursion cell phone during every outing so that they can contact the centre, families, or emergency services – should this be necessary for any reason.
- Children will wear appropriate clothing on the excursion (eg sunhats in summer, or jackets/hats in winter).
- In the instance that the children are travelling on a bus when departing the bus one teacher must be the first to depart and will do a head count as the children get off and the other teacher will be the last to get off the bus checking with the other teacher that all children are accounted for before getting off the bus themselves.
